Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) or Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy is a non-surgical, safe and effective treatment that involves the delivery of shock waves to musculoskeletal areas of the body. We use the Piezo Wave 2 technology to address a large variety of conditions associated with myofascial dysfunction such as: scar tissue, adhesions, calcifications, tendinopathy, bursitis, capsulitis and trigger points. Most commonly the elbow, shoulder, hip, heel, lower neck and back are the areas treated with the Piezo Wave 2 with the primary goal of reducing pain and promoting healing of the affected soft tissues. The shock wave targets damaged tissue only, reducing inflammation, while breaking up scar tissue and stimulating tissue healing. The result is reduced pain and increased range of motion. The shock waves for orthopedic indications are the same as those used to break up kidney stones, but utilize much less energy. ESWT is performed on an outpatient basis and is intended as a noninvasive alternative to surgical intervention.

A typical treatment protocol following a diagnostic visit to set the Piezo Wave’s specific parameters is 5 treatments over a 3-5 week period. Periodic maintenance may be necessary depending on the extent and/or chronicity of tissue damage.

Combine with Summus Laser

How are they able to achieve this fete? Well, it’s simple. Summus Laser products are developed with a focus on power, frequencies and wavelengths to ensure that the right level of healing laser energy is effectively delivered to the targeted amount of fat, muscle and bone tissue.

Laser therapy can be, solely or as part of a broader treatment plan, used to effectively treat the following painful conditions:

  • Peripheral Neuropathy: This term refers to a variety of conditions that are caused by damaged of diseased nerves carrying signals to and from different parts of the body, including muscles, skin and organs, to the spinal cord and brain. Great examples here include carpal tunnel, caused by repetitive use of the same muscle groups in the hands and wrists for extended periods, and diabetic neuropathy.
  • Pain Syndromes: This is a blanket term that refers to a number of painful conditions caused by, abnormal, damaged or diseased nerves. Diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, lower back pain, and complex regional pain syndrome are some of the commonly reported pain syndromes.
  • Extremity Sprains: Extremity sprains may occur in the joints in the neck, shoulders, wrists, elbows, ankles and knees. Strains are usually caused by the unnatural stretching or tearing of the ligaments joining the different bones in the above mentioned joints.
  • Strains: At the end of muscles we have tendons; their main job is to hold muscles and bones together. When these bands are overstretched or pulled from the bone, strains occur. Strains may be caused by an injury, like twisting a joint or a fall, or by overuse or wear and tear.
  • Sports Injuries: This term is commonly used to refer to musculoskeletal injuries that are linked to playing sports or training/exercise. Sprains and strains are the most common types of sports injuries.
